Trane Technologies buys AI pioneer – Cooling Post
USA: Trane Technologies has signed a definitive agreement to acquire BrainBox AI, a pioneer in autonomous HVAC controls and generative AI building technology.
Headquartered in Montreal, Canada, BrainBox AI uses advanced deep learning algorithms to predict building energy needs and automate HVAC systems, to reduce energy consumption by up to 25%.
The companies have partnered over the past two years to couple Trane’s cloud-based building automation system with BrainBox AI technology to analyse live data from multiple sources, predict zone temperature and energy loads and perform system improvements to optimise energy usage.
The acquisition is described as a natural extension of that existing collaboration, further augmenting Trane Technologies’ advanced building management and digital capabilities.
Trane Technologies says it will maintain BrainBox AI’s existing operations in Montreal, with CEO Sam Ramadori, and co-founder and chief technology officer Jean-Simon Venne continuing to lead the business and team of more than 190 associates, primarily based in Canada and the United States.
BrainBox AI’s recently launched ARIA platform (Artificial Responsive Intelligent Agent) was selected as one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2024. Described as the world’s first virtual building engineer, ARIA is said to deliver precise and accurate data visualisation, sound reasoning, and informed actions for facility management professionals.
