GSMA Open Gateway Hackathon Winners Celebrated

AI Innovation, African Scale and the Future of Open Networks

The Deep Learning Indaba 2026 brings together Africa’s rapidly growing AI, machine learning and data science community under the theme“Sovereign Intelligence. African Scale.” Hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, the event aims to strengthen Africa’s AI ecosystem by connecting researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, operators and investors while championing Africa’s ability to build, govern and benefit from its own AI technologies and datasets.

As a sponsor, the GSMA is supporting a major industry initiative focused on advancing African AI capabilities and multilingual AI innovation through the African Languages AI Project / Africa Atlas AI initiative, working alongside operators, technology partners and the wider AI community to promote African language models, datasets and responsible AI development across the continent. GSMA’s sponsorship is designed to foster collaboration between the telecommunications and AI ecosystems while accelerating AI adoption and innovation in Africa. 

The event will also feature a GSMA Open Gateway Showcase, highlighting the three winning teams from the Africa Ignite Open Gateway Hackathon. Finalists will demonstrate how they used GSMA Open Gateway, CAMARA APIs and programmable network capabilities to address real-world challenges across financial inclusion, digital trust, mobility and infrastructure. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the innovators behind TrustScore, SafeRide and GridGuard, and discover how open network APIs are helping developers create scalable digital services for Africa.
